"Sometimes the mind, for reasons we don't necessarily understand, just decides to go to the store for a quart of milk."
~Diane Frolov, Northern Exposure
Wow, it has been so long since I've posted here, I'm not even sure anyone is checking our blog anymore to read this! So anyway, here's the last few weeks in a nutshell:
--Bryan and Ashley had their engagement dinner at the Melting Pot in Grand Rapids in late October, so we drove up and made a weekend of it. We met her mom, dad, and sister. It was a great time. We had never been to the Melting Pot before but it was lots of fun and we sure wouldn't mind going again sometime! And Ashley asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding, so that is really exciting too!!
--Halloween: We had people over to pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters because our friends live in apartments where there are fewer kids (and there are lots in our neighborhood!). We all carved pretty cute pumpkins (I printed templates off the internet to use this year), but Dan spent an exceptionally long time on his and it turned out really well. We had cheese and black bean enchiladas (homemade by yours truly!) and pumpkin cheesecake (also homemade), and watched White Noise. Overall it was a fun night!
--Dan got a promotion at work, so now he is Senior Sales Associate of the Home Theater Department. It comes with more work and longer hours, but also a good raise, so overall it's a good thing. I'm pretty busy with lab and classes anyway, so it works out well.
--Dan did get off the Wednesday before Thanksgiving so we will be going home for a couple days, which is very exciting! Otherwise, we've just been getting by, getting more involved in church and keeping afloat at work. I'll update again soon, I promise this time!!!

We live in an apartment building that has no visible children. (most apartments are only 1 bedroom). It just didn't feel like Halloween without trick-or-treaters. But considering that we live in Oakland, even if there were kids, I don't know how many of them would have been out at night! I'm glad that you were able to have a festive holiday with friends. Please congratulate Dan for us on his promotion. We are glad for his success even though we have a strong dislike of big box retail stores. Hope you have a safe drive home for Thanksgiving!
Robin
WOO! Congrats on the promotion:) It sounds like you guys are keeping busy!
I'm very excited to have you as my bridesmaid! I've not done any more detailed planning (been too busy with getting work off the ground...). Once I do however, I'm going to make sure and let you girls know/keep you updated, etc:) I'm glad you both had fun at the Melting Pot:)
Anyways, I should get going, I hope you both have an awesome Thanksgiving. Christmas is just around the corner... so we'll definitely be seeing you then!
Take care.
Ash.
